CIRCLE TIME: AN ANTIRACIST LIBRARY ART INSTALLATION

Veronica Smith’s evocative multi-sensory installation transports visitors to their childhood memories of reading circles in elementary classrooms & libraries. This installation invites visitors to engage in conversations around antiracism, equity, and inclusion in literature to protect the freedom to read.

A DAY WITH THE FLORIDA HIGHWAYMEN
10am - 3pm @ Orange County Regional History Center | Free

A celebration of the Florida Highwaymen: the group of 26 African American artists who broke from the conventions of the Jim Crow South in the 1950s and ’60s to paint and sell their now-iconic landscapes of Florida. Three of the original Highwaymen – Curtis Arnett, Al Black, and Robert Lewis Jr. – are slated to participate, along with second-generation painters Robert Lewis III and Roy McLendon Jr.

WRITER’S ATELIER PRESENTS:
TURN YOUR IDEA INTO AN UNPUTDOWNABLE NOVEL
WITH DAMYANTI BISWAS
7pm - 9pm | Virtual Class | $50
In this dense two-hour workshop, you’ll start with ways to find a premise that sells, create memorable characters, and learn how to draft your novel using either an outline, or without. You’ll find pro tips on writing an evocative setting that pulls the reader in and helps them sink into the world of the story. You’ll also learn how to work with a conflict that lasts, and resultant tension. You’ll understand the importance of picking a point of view character, choosing what person to write in, and the role of using tense in narration.
