FLAWN #6 - July 2023
A monthly newsletter of events, shout-outs, interviews, and bite-sized pieces of creative work from the Florida Local Artist & Writer Network (FLAWN).
A Piece of FLAWN
Welcome to our sixth serving of FLAWN. We will be taking a break this summer, so there will be no newsletter for August. Be on the lookout in September for our next issue!
If you enjoy what you find here, be sure to subscribe, and you’ll get our monthly newsletter in your e-mail inbox once per month! (Desktop view allows for optimal viewing.)
Subscribers can also submit one piece of writing (<500 words), art, or multimedia content for guest post consideration. As we want to promote the arts in Florida, we’ll consider pieces submitted by those who live in the state, were born here, or whose work is somehow inspired by the state. All genres are welcome.
To submit, email FLAWNinfo@gmail.com.

I thought I’d share an update to the film project I mentioned in FLAWN’s February newsletter. The project is supporting by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and will feature my original music and artwork by local artists. Last month, we finally filmed at Chad Mize’s SPACE which was filled with queer artwork for Pride month.
Pictured are choreographer and dancer Caleb Baker, videographer Zach Moore, stylist and clothier Candice “Little Bull” Stokes, and myself. I’ll be spending the next few months editing and plan to host a public screening in autumn.
The Writer’s Corner
The Writer’s Corner is a monthly installment in which Dustin Brookshire interviews writers residing in Florida with a focus on south Florida writers. The July installment features Tampa writer Sheree L. Greer. In 2014, Sheree founded The Kitchen Table Literary Arts Center to showcase and support the work of Black women and women of color writers and is the author of two novels, Let the Lover Be and A Return to Arms, a short story collection, Once and Future Lovers, and a student writing guide, Stop Writing Wack Essays. Greer’s work has been nominated for a Pushcart and was notably named in Best American Essays. Visit her online at shereelgreer.com.
